The Road Home

It's a strange and unique feeling to be going home after so long on the road. And not even a true home but a more temporary one. But one still more permanent than a hostel, a train.

As our train drives through the Czeck mountains at sunset, passing tiny towns and winding its way through valleys along the river, I can't help but be filled with an excited, sad, hopeful and elated homesickness.

But really, where am I homesick for? Is it Paris? Austin? New Jersey? Or is it really on the road? Out here with Jack? With thousands of restless backpackers? With Ali and Chelsey? With my dad and Bandit?

I breathe this air, moving as fast as I am and can't help but to think of myself as a storyteller, a bard, a singer and bringer of news. And I am. People ask for my stories, my songs, my news from afar. We are a unique people, us wanderers, and I wouldn't ever give this up. I will wander from time to time for ever.

But home is always at the end of the tracks.

Eurotrip--We Live It!

Hello all!

This is Ali and Renée reporting from Vienna! We have not been sold into slavery. Thanks Papa Stairs for checking...just in case.

We wanted to inform and enlighten you all of some of our adventures thus far. All centering around one theme...the movie Eurotrip. Yes all, I know it is a bad movie. But it is so funny and Ali has seen it, like 20 times. (Renée, zero times.) But who needs a movie when life so closely resembles the script? Oh yes, the whole film is an exaggeration...but not by much.

For example, last night we were sitting peacefully in our 20-person bunk room in our hostel (in the middle of nowhere) when we were verbally acosted by a crazy Hungarian man. Accent two shakes away from the man of Bratislava in the movie. You know, the guy that talks about just getting Miami Vice on the telly? Well, this man sounded quite close. And he told us that Ronald Regan was the best US president so far. Oh yeah. And he prefaced the most racist things we've ever heard in our life by saying "I'm not racist...but..."

And let's not overlook the detail of the 20 person hostel room. That in itself...Eurotrip. I sleep with my valuables...practically up my anus.

Or how about the train to Munich? Thank goodness there have been no pants-less Italian men (though there pants-less German in the hostel.) We did have a very nice, but very enthusiastic French family. They gave us a really yummy piece of cheese...but come morning Renée and I were on the very bottom beds, and upon waking up, the entire family said "Good morning!" in English. When I looked up, I saw four faces looking down at me...in a very creepy fashion. We got out of the compartment first.

We'll update you very soon--we'll be hitting Prague tomorrow...and we speak no Czech. Oh yeah. Pointing and hoping.

Olive Green

This is what happens when Ali and I are bored.

and then we took it maybe a little too far by moving it to a public atmosphere...
